PREMIUM OVERHEAD CRANE MANUFACTURERS
Modular Cranes is one of Australia’s leading overhead crane manufacturers, providing robust, custom engineered lifting systems for demanding industrial sites. We bring over 25 years of hands on experience to designing, fabricating and installing high quality bridge cranes. We understand that heavy manufacturing requires absolute reliability, which is why we deliver tailored overhead cranes in Melbourne and across the country that maximise safety, durability and operational uptime.

Single Girder Gantry Crane
Engineered for lighter industrial applications, our single girder gantry cranes efficiently handle loads up to 20 tonnes and spans up to 26 metres. These versatile systems are built for shorter duty cycles and come fully equipped with an onboard maintenance platform, 4WD capabilities, and flexible control options.

Double Girder Gantry Crane
Built for heavy industry and continuous operation, our double girder systems safely lift massive loads up to 100 tonnes with spans up to 30 metres. Designed for rigorous eight hour plus duty cycles, they feature enhanced structural stability, integrated girder walkways, and reliable 4WD performance for demanding environments.
ENGINEERED LIFTING SOLUTIONS
Every facility has unique load demands and spatial constraints. We provide flexible, modular component packages engineered specifically for your exact working environment, duty cycle and lifting height. Operated safely from the ground via hard-wired pendant or remote radio control, our systems are built to optimise your manufacturing workflow. We manufacture and supply four primary structural configurations:
Types of Overhead Cranes We Supply
-
Single Girder (Top Running): Highly efficient, low maintenance designs that serve as the most economical choice for light to medium duty applications in compact spaces.
-
Single Girder (Underslung): Dramatically lighter, ceiling mounted systems that offer versatile usability and maximize floor space by removing the need for support columns.
-
Double Girder: Engineered for heavy lifting operations, most frequently utilized for load capacities over 10 tonnes and spans exceeding 20 metres.
-
Open Winch Heavy Duty: Built to operate in tough, arduous conditions with high switching frequencies, featuring fast lifting speeds and extreme durability.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a gantry crane?
A gantry crane is the best material handling tool that moves on wheels, track or rail system. It is generally utilised for loading and unloading of small or bulky items. Being the best full remote control and low noise equipment, gantry crane improves your productivity while saving maintenance costs. When you want easy installation and stable performance, you can surely go for gantry crane at Modular Cranes.
What is a gantry crane used for?
Gantry crane is a highly efficient piece of equipment, so it has a wide range of applications. From warehouse, garage, manufacturing factories to maintenance industries, all are the indoor places where you can use gantry crane. On the other hand, it can also be considered for outdoor areas like port, dock, shipyard etc. For fabrication uses or in some container yards, full gantry cranes are preferable. Whereas, for small services, portable gantry cranes are used. We specialise in building all types of gantry cranes.
How does a gantry crane work?
Gantry crane is composed of different types of mechanisms, including trolley, lifting, and crane travelling. It can easily move heavy objects along fixed runways, i.e., at the floor level because of its vertical legs feature. An expert crane operator operates any gantry crane by sitting on the crane’s top end, suspended from the trolley. Here the operator is fully responsible for loading or unloading of items. Our manufacturing experts keep in mind all these features for ensuring the best gantry crane working condition.
Do you need a license to operate a gantry crane?
Majority of gantry crane operators do not require a license to operate as they are fully remote or pendant controlled and are limited to 3 or less powered motions of operation. However, if the gantry crane is a powered crane means capable of travelling along elevated runways, a high-risk license is required. When there is a judgment to be made for connecting the load, the operator must hold gantry crane dogging or rigging high-risk license.
What is the difference between gantry crane and overhead crane?
Overhead crane is lifting equipment used in the workshop, warehouse, and yard as it is designed like a bridge – located on both ends of a tall cement column. Whereas, a gantry crane is a machine that moves a load using a hoisting mechanism and can be manual or power-driven by an operator. Also, the gantry crane is more economical and beneficial than an overhead crane or bridge crane. For all types of premium gantry cranes across Australia, Modular Cranes can be your ultimate choice.
What is a gantry hoist?
A gantry hoist consists of a trolley that helps a trained operator lift objects vertically and transfers them horizontally in the desired location. Such hoists are commonly used in dock, warehouses, and manufacturing factories. For a large gantry hoist, certification might be needed for the operator. However, people with heavy equipment training or who knows the details about hoist controls can use the smaller version.
